Land Guardians at Tataskweyak Cree Nation
Date: August 19-20, 2020
The Kis Kin Ha Ma Ki Win team visited Tataskweyak to collaborate and work with the Land Guardians. On the first day, the team visited Troy Lake, a beautiful area where the community has its annual traditional youth camps. There were lots of activities including swimming, boat rides and tubing, bingo with lots of prizes, and lots of good food with great people. The team was able to give a brief presentation of our goals and showed the youth our mobile water quality testing labs.
On the second day, the team travelled to Split Lake to meet the Land Guardians. Both teams travelled by boat to collect water samples at different points on the lake where different rivers flow in. Other objectives included the analysis of water quality and shoreline erosion of the lake.
