Ashley, Carter and Aiden left to Swan Lake First Nation during the evening of May 28th and slept at Eline Scott’s very nice outdoor cabin. In the morning of the 29th Eline offered the crew tea, coffee and Bannock a very nice gesture that they appreciated a lot. Ashley, Carter and Aiden arrived at Swan Lakes elementary school later that morning and started setting up shelters from the sun and had a generous breakfast from the school. By lunch time Ashley had the children testing water from the nearby river while Carter and Aiden went on an educational tour with Dave Scott and his son Finn Rachul. On Carter and Aidens tour they learned about how the river got so dirty and the local Mennonite colonies that live across the river. During Ashleys water testing she educated the early years on Giardiasis or also know as beaver fever a problem that was common in the river. After Carter and Aiden’s educational tour of the community Dave and Aiden took the children on a nature walk. The nature walk was very educational it showed the children how the trees affect the soil, how ants affect the tress and natures mosquito repellant. Later that day all of the children and staff including Ashley, Carter and Aiden had a movie night in the gym and slept there till the morning. The next morning Ashley and the crew helped clean up and get ready for the powwow that was happening later that day. The powwow was amazing many schools from the nearby communities came to connect with the Indigenous culture. Ashley cooked over 250 burgers during the duration of the powwow without a break to feed everyone. After the powwow Ashley, Carter, and Aiden headed home with the thought of the community in the back of their minds forever.
