It is with careful consideration and a lot of conversations, that we are postponing the Kis Kin Ha Ma Ki Win camps until further notice. With the recent events taking place globally, the COVID-19 pandemic has seen everyone self-isolate, schools closing, and Indigenous people are returning back to the land. This is evident on social media with many First Nations organizations, educators, traditional knowledge holders, and the youth posting pictures of medicine picking, fishing, hunting, trapping, etc.
Now, going into the second year of the land-based science camps, it is unfortunate that we have to postpone the camps. However, we are looking into new modern, online, digitized methods to present our camps. This will allow us to build and develop online modules for communities to use as a reference to organize their own land-based camps. These modules and lesson plans will also assist with training for youth and community members, and to learn how to coordinate land-based education plans and curriculums.
Our online toolkit will be under development over the course of the next 2 months (at least). This content will be made available to those communities you wish to access it. This toolkit will include a USB with video lessons and teachings, worksheets, field guides, photos, and much more. You will also receive a printed copy of camp agenda ideas, modules, objectives, and learning outcomes.
